Let's Get Visual

Here are the facts:

  • Visual content is 40 times more likely to get shared on social media than other types of content. (Buffer, 2014)
  • Articles that display an image once every 75-100 words got double the number of social shares than articles with fewer images. (Buzzsumo, 2015)
  • 71% of online marketers use visual assets in their social media marketing. (Social Media Examiner, 2015)
  • Research has shown that when people hear information, they are likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later. (LifeLearn, 2015)

So, how can you make your visual content top notch?

First, make sure your approach to visual content is consistent. By this we mean, get some brand guidelines! What images work with your brand? What kind of visuals do your customers want to see?

Second, make sure you’re prepared. Have a plan for the content you’re putting out there, whether it’s digital or physical. Marketing should be done in line with a strategy that is going to show results. If you know what you’re going to create and why, you’ll have time to source and/or create the visuals.

Third, don’t cut corners. Clearly, as the stats show, getting your visual content right is worth it. This applies to everything from your company photography, commercial video, all marketing materials and digital output. It ties back into our first point as well. Your brand guidelines should stipulate the standards your images and visuals should live up to.
